Launch of the BIODICAPT project

On October 9 and 10, participants in the Biodicapt project gathered for the operational launch of the large-scale, sensor-based biodiversity monitoring project, which supports ecosystem services for the assessment of agroecological systems.

With a rich partnership of 18 multi-institutional research units (Agroparistech, INRAE, Institut Agro Montpellier, Institut Agro Rennes-Angers ESA, Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse, Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Sorbonne Université, Université Toulouse III Paul Sabatier), this launch marks the start of the latest project to be selected in the first call for projects for 2024.

The aim of this project is to quantify the impact of agricultural practices and agroecological infrastructure on biodiversity and ecosystem services and ultimately contribute to the design of multi-performance agroecological systems.

The program includes a proposal for a biodiversity monitoring strategy based on a variety of sensors and algorithms (audio, video, proxy, remote sensing), implemented in agricultural landscapes at the regional and national levels to characterize birds, bats, insects, and their interactions.

This project will expand the PEPR scientific communities with new expertise, infrastructure, and rich testing networks implemented to measure biodiversity. Connections to existing projects have already been established (Melicertes, PlantAgroEco, Ecocontrol), and others are in the works.
