Artificial intelligence for the holistic efficiency of grassland areas in terms of livestock farming and grassland management

Background & objectives

To develop an integrated pipeline, from data to decision-making, in order to improve the management of grasslands and grazing livestock, through:

  • the development of digital methods to analyse a wide range of data (aerial surveys, sensors fitted to livestock, field data);
  • the design of decision-support tools for stakeholders, such as operational maps, early-warning systems and best-practice guides.

Expected outcomes

The results of the project will contribute to the agroecological transition by reducing inputs in pasture management, improving forage quality, monitoring, taking biodiversity into account, and providing advice on grassland and herd management.

Organisation

The project is organised around 5 work packages:

  • Project coordination and management
  • Enrichment of data on biodiversity, chemical composition and animal requirements at aerial, terrestrial and animal scales, for the production of maps interpolating and synthesising this information at different scales
  • Creation of datasets for the validation of results and completion of information with a view to optimising practices at three sites: Larzac, French Guiana and the French Alps.
  • Modelling and operational methods for optimal livestock farming practices and early detection of problems. These methods include data analysis, early warning systems and optimisation methods.
  • Dissemination to stakeholders through knowledge transfer and the production of digital tools.
